Remlinger??

A strange move, but I guess it didn't cost much. I guess we need another left, but I am starting to wonder what our final pen will look like. Especially since we prepared to only go with 11 pitchers.

  1. Yeah, it's not looking good. I just don't see this team built for a good run in the playoffs (assuming they get there). Particularly if Foulke is ineffective. I mean, for all the grousing you hear about "Joe's guys" in the bullpen (Sturtze/Gordon/Rivera; Scioscia has something similar), it sure would be nice to have a combo like that. It is just way too touch-and-go in the late innings for my taste.

  2. I wonder if they think Miller may be done? That probably isn't a reason to make this move - they probably want the lefty.

I imagine this team will go as far as their bats take them. Which is to say, not promising. same boat as ANA and MFY. Chi and Oak appear to have the pitching edges this year.

  3. The curious thing about Remlinger is that, though he's a lefty, he's actually markedly better against righties.

  4. Yeah... add to that the acquisitions of Matt Perisho and Ricky Bottalico, and I start to wonder if we're going to try the Lou Pinella RP's-as-SP's experiment on a larger stage. But... In Theo... and all.

  5. Well, given that Wade Miller's worst inning is the first, maybe that's not a terrible idea...

  6. Interesting on the reverse split for Remlinger. Now its even harder to figure out.

we need to find something that works. Like ANA in 2002 with Weber, Donelly, K-Rod and Percival.

The white sox are scary with their starters and then their pen has been great. Neal Cotts (2.14) Cliff Politte (1.88) Hermanson (not overpowering but getting it done 1.64), Marte has been shaky but strikes a lot of people out and they have a kid up (Jenks) that throws gas.

  7. Wow, Remlinger looked awesome in his Red Sox debut. I can't believe he was DFA'd.

  8. Yeah I was pretty impressed as well.

How to turn a 7-2 lead into an extra inning game. Yikes.

That move makes less sense to me with each passing moment. couldn't Papelbon, Dinardo. Delcarmen or Alvarez handle these innings? with a 5 run lead.
