Today marks the 20th anniversary of Super Bowl XX, in which the Chicago Bears utterly crushed the New England Patriots, 46-10. In recognition of the only good thing to come out of that game (for Pats fans at least), I just received my copy of this in the mail. That’s right, the Super Bowl Shuffle, 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. I guess that makes me a collector. A collector of awesome stuff. I have to say, this is truly one of the greatest DVD’s ever made. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to watch all 2290 minutes of my Red Sox 2004 World Series DVD collection. But now I’m thinking that all that time I’ve set aside might be better spent watching the Super Bowl Shuffle…416 times. Two down, 414 to go. Anyway, for those of you too young, or too stupid, to remember the Super Bowl Shuffle, below is a handy list of Super Bowl Shuffle links and information.
To watch the Super Bowl Shuffle video, click here. It's in low-res though - you really want to order the DVD, which is chock-full of (two) special features, from Amazon or eBay. Additional (grotesquely overpriced) Super Bowl Shuffle merchandise can be purchased at the Super Bowl Shuffle Official Site. The full lyrics can be found here, and step-by-step instructions on how to do the Super Bowl Shuffle here. Click here to read the Onion article on their follow-up album.
I can see no reason why the GYS Network should not be the World Wide Web's Number One Source for Super Bowl Shuffle Information. If you have any questions/comments/trivia regarding the Super Bowl Shuffle, feel free to use the Comments section below.

ReplyDeleteEarl.. This is simply amazing or scary.
ReplyDeleteFACT: I was pretty drunk while watching that game.
ReplyDeleteFACT: I was at the Ground Round in Cleveland Circle because they had $1.50 draft specials.
FACT: I was only 18 years old at the time and my marginal fake ID was another reason why I was at the "Round" that day.
FACT: The earlier game where the Pats "squished the fish" was watched by me at the now defunct Celebrations in Kenmore SQ, current home of the GAP (I believe).
FACT: It is sad that noone reading this post is likely to remember Celebrations.
FACT: The Icky shuffle was a blatant rip off/copy cat attempt.
ReplyDeleteFACT: The female referee who blows a whistle every time someone tries to say "ass" is Julia Meyer. Meyer is also an Executive Producer of the Super Bowl Shuffle, and wife of Richard E. Meyer, who wrote the "lyrics" and is also an Executive Producer. The two were not married until after the video was released.
ReplyDeleteFACT: The Bears didn't do the Super Bowl Shuffle because they're greedy; they were doing it to feed the needy. (Proceeds from the Super Bowl Shuffle went to charity.)
ReplyDeleteFACT: Saturday Night Live once did a parody of the Super Bowl Shuffle.
ReplyDeleteFACT: This year's Cincy Bengals (Earl's adopted favorite team), tried to imitate the SBS with a little diddy known as the "Fear da Tiger."
ReplyDeleteFACT: (Or at least I tHink it is a fact). The Super Bowl Shuffle was nominated for a Grammy.
ReplyDeleteFACT: Super Bowl Shuffle was not the only rap video that the Fridge was in - he also made a song with Walter Payton telling kids to not do drugs or join gangs.
ReplyDeleteFACT: Payton and McMahon were unable to attend the original filming of the song's music video, so they were spliced in later.
ReplyDeleteFACT: Walter Payton is the only memeber of the Shuffle Crew that has passed away.
ReplyDeleteBut Co-Producer Richard Meyer is also deceased.
ReplyDeleteFACT: Mike Singletary contributed much of the Choreography.
ReplyDeleteX IS CORRECT ON ALL COUNTS.
ReplyDeleteThe SNL skit was one of their best of all time. "We are kickers/We kick the ball/We play with ball/We kick the ball/We kick field goal/The P.A.T./We kick for you/We kick the ball." and "I am Raul/I kick machine/I kick for seven different team/I kick the ball/I play for ball/I kick for you/I - I - I am Raul!"
They were nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance—Duo or Group. Thankfully, they lost.
Bootsy Collins helped with "Fear Da Tiger" (subtitled "But please don't injure our quarterback after his first pass in the wild-card game").
FACT: That superbowl was held the same week that Shuttle Challenger exploded - we'll be hearing a lot of those stories this week.
ReplyDeleteFunny note - I had the TV on when it happened and in the excitement to tell someone I ran down the hall to my friend will's room (dorms) and exclaimed "the shuttle just blew up." His response was classic, of course he had just been woken up by me - "how the hell did the BU shuttle bus blow up?"
Damn, X is on fire. Where are you getting all this?
ReplyDeleteFACT: The SBS was recorded on the day after the Bears only loss of the season. They were 12-0 heading into their game with the Dolphins.
ReplyDeleteFACT: The Fridge was also a member of G.I. Joe. You can buy a Fridge action figure on eBay (complete with football-on-a-stick) for only $15.
ReplyDeleteFACT: The Bears in the 80s were kind of like the Atlanta Braves (this is a baseball blog).
ReplyDeleteFrom 1984-88, the Bears went 62-17, but made just one Super Bowl appearance.
FACT: While I'm not sure if it is a record of any kind, the Bears beat the Giants, Rams and Patriots in the postseason by a combined score of 91-10.
ReplyDeleteFACT: X is frickin' nuts...
ReplyDeleteFACT: The number one movie the weekend of the Bears-Pats SB was the Color Purple.
ReplyDeleteFACT: January 26, 1988 on the two year anniversary of the SB "Phantom of the Opera" opens at Majestic Theater New York City.
ReplyDeleteFACT: January 26, 1979 - the Dukes of Hazzard debuts on CBS.
ReplyDeleteFACT: Other notable birthdays on January 26 - Wayne Gretzky (who also scored his 50th goal on his birthday one year), Ellen Degeneres, Gene Siskel (from CHI, I think), and Bob Uecker (Hey this is a baseball blog).
ReplyDeleteFACT: L Ron Hubbard (the scientologist dude) died the day after SB XX.
