Do you think Selig is shiting his pants right now because everyone is talking about the playoffs and no one is talking about 'roids? He couldn't have asked for a more exciting season even if he ruled the all-star game ended in a tie - hah!
Seriously -- even for Yanks-Sox alone, it's incredible that there's this sort of intensity. Again. And yes, it's coming down to the final series in Fenway.
Plus, 7 of 8 spots up for grabs with 6 days left in the season. Amazing.
Did anyone catch the highlights (lowlights?) of the Yanks last night? When Giambi hit his HR after the A-Rod double, A-Rod skipped home. I'm not kidding you. He skipped around third bases and in to home.
Say Cleveland and Chicago end up tied...and New York and Boston end up tied...And they all have the same record...
Would it be Cleveland and Chicago in a one-game playoff...then Boston and NY in a one-game playoff...and then the losers in another playoff game for the wild card?
One change in the rules this year is that if CHI and CLE tie for the division and NY finishes second with the same record, it used to be that NY would get the wildcard by default since the one game playoff for the division was a regular season game and the loser would then finish a half game behind. But in a rare moment of doing something that actually makes sense (why a punish a team with the same record), they changed the rule. I had posted the old rule a while back (incorrectly).
I take it that the scenario that GR lays out -- a one-game playoff between one-game playoff losers -- would have to be done the following day (Tuesday, one week from today). So then Games 1 and 2 of the ALDS would have to be pushed back a day? That's a lot of playoff baseball with no days in between.
very nice.

ReplyDeleteFirst - Slappy. Now - Skippy.
Not to mention, Earl, that your Cincinnati Bengals are 3-0!!!! What a week for you!
ReplyDeleteHey, here's a scenario...Can it happen?

Exactly what would happen.
