So
Johnny Damon's hurt. It doesn't seem to be anything major: a sore left shoulder, the sort of thing the Yanks are going to have to deal with continually for the next 4 years. But no doubt Steinbrenner and other WBC hatahs are going to point to this as the first "casualty". Which is ridiculous, since in the last week he's gotten 8 plate appearances (1 H, 1 BB) and two starts in the outfield, less than he'd have in Tampa had he stayed home.
Not to mention that Damon had the same injury most of last year. And George elected to give him $52 Million.
ReplyDeleteI don't think too many people will give his injury much merit
If the USA advances (and that is a big if now), this could open the door for Bonds to be added to the US roster. I'm sure Bud will not let that happen, but hey let's keep talking about steroids.
ReplyDeleteWhile I think this makes me a commie, I'm sort of hoping the US doesn't advance.
ReplyDelete1) they look terrible.
2) the whole Bonds thing is sidestepped.
3) something like Korea-DR would be great for the tournament.
4) Varitek can return to Ft. Myers and start catching the new guys.
I think the US team is approaching the games like a regular season affair. No sense of urgency. No extra umph.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part about this is that the one player that someone *could* point a finger at is Dontrelle, who on all fronts appears to be a good guy.
This injury to Damon, who hardly ever complains, may be one of those lingering injuries, making Georgie Porgie a very unhappy boy.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. And all you need for proof of that is this sentence:
"A-Rod with a game-winning hit."
(then again, last night he went 0-for-5, with 2K's and 7 LOB. Which is too bad because I was hoping the nickname "Mr. March" would stick.)
