Today?

Hey Boston folks: will there be a game today? Weather reports seem to indicate the showers will come afterwards, but then again, Boston weather reports never seem to be right. (Tomorrow looks a lot worse.)

This can be done. Wakefield's the guy to do it. If it becomes 1-2...well, in every ALDS Game 4 it's 1-2. Hopefully the offense will wake up. They've spent the last 36+ hours getting pissed at themselves...

  1. Seems like there will... the rain is supposed to be later. The NYY game tonight might be in dange, and both games tomorrow could be as well, but the afternoon game should be playable. Which is good, because I'm going to it.

  2. It is great out right now. Hot, actually...

    They'll get tonight's game in...

    The heavy rains come tomorrow.

  3. WEll the rain gods may help ups yet again. Remember last year's rain out of game 3 helped line up the pitching for the rest of the series.

Wake goes tonight, Schilling on Sunday and then Wells back on normal rest come Monday.

  4. Wow, listening to Phil Rogers from the Chi Trib and he has basically written off the Sox. among the things he has said:

Wells on 3 days rest is not worrisome at all since he is so old.

CHI is a better hitting, deeper lineup.

CHI rotation are ALL guys that are capable of dominating.

The city of Boston is not buzzing anywhere nearly as much as it was last weekend.

And this is the whopper - he has a feeling that the Sox fans "know" that this season is different and he expects that this season Boston fans. who are known for their hostility, will be more gracious losers. And yes, he did use the word losers.

  5. Chicago is a better hitting deeper lineup? He loses his argument right there.

    Schilling can dominate.
    Wells can dominate.
    Wake can dominate.
    Garland can dominate.
    Buerhle can dominate.
    Contreras can dominate.
    Next???

Here's another thought...and maybe another thread is needed for this...

    Here's the basic Sox lineup.

    Damon
    Renteria
    Ortiz
    Ramirez
    Nixon
    Varitek
    Olerud/Millar
    Mueller
    Graffanino

    Next year?
    Damon- probably gone
Renteria- still here (probably lower in the lineup)
    Ortiz
    Ramirez (probably a Met)
    Nixon
    Tek
    Olerud and Millar- gone
    Mueller- gone
    Graf- probably gone

    That's strange, isn't it?

This is the last go round for this core...Next year is drastically different...

  6. Yeah definitely the guy had his home glasses on, especially about the lineup. It was silly - he framed it more like "people who don't see this team every day don't realize that this may be the deepest lineup in baseball top to bottom." Silly.

As for the pitchers, don't forget Garcia and the kid McCarthy was pretty good. apparently they led the league in QS - in fact he had an amazing statistic. White Sox starters had 51 games in which they gave up 0 or 1 runs. Frightening. And I think more consistently dominant that I realized.

  7. 19 against KC...no, I know it wasn't just them, but that probably didn't hurt...

Anyway, how about that "small ball"...? Podsednik now 1 for 3 in steal attempts...He's more of a threat standing on first because of that speed.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yep, I'm sure a good number of them were against KC and probably DET as well. But I doubt the Sox have half that many - and it seems like Wells and Clement had a bunch of great games in the first half.

  9. pitched around Manny...Go Trot!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Time for johnny o to come through

    ReplyDelete
  11. Time for a classic Doug M HR....

    ReplyDelete
  12. Time for the next inning....booo

The skies just opened up here. It was beautiful all day, now this.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The upside? 43 pitches in two innings for Garcia.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ok, start to play very slowly so we don't make it to the fifth inning...Damn, 1-0 on consecutive doubles...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hope Jeremy is under the roof today...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Help me remember here. Wasn't there a game earlier in the year against the White Sox where we hit in to 5 DPs?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Actually I think that was against Detroit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I turn on the TV to see that. Down by 1. Let's get ten more.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I vaguely remember that game but can't recall who it was against.

I remember the game last year the Wake gave up 5 HR and we won - against DET.

    ReplyDelete
  20. With the way they are pitching Manny, he's going to have to reach out for it a la the Bad News Bear, Kelly Leach...

    ReplyDelete
  21. I AM A GOOD LUCK CHARM. Only 9 more.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It looked that way and then Fredo left one out over the plate. Big mistake. Especially to Manny with his opposite field power.

    ReplyDelete
  23. welcome earl!!

BTW I watched your show the other night. It was pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I've heard that from a bunch of people.

My Name Is Earl: TV show for pissed off Red Sox fans.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Come on, John O...Ed O look alike...Earl, you know who I am talking about...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Very nice half inning by Wake!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow, I never thought about that. Maybe because Papelbon looks exactly like his best friend from college. It's sort of scary actually.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It'd be nice to get two on here for Papi...

    ReplyDelete
  29. 95 pitches for Garcia...Papi coming up...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yuck. That would've been nice, C'mon Tim.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is it just me or does this game smell like a "game to be won by Ortiz or Manny on a HR."

    Fuck!! Konerko pisses me off.

Still smells like the above to me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ...and then that. Crap.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I hate to say it but I felt that coming...Damn...It's going to be tough now probably against their pen...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok, I don't get this...He just gets Everett...71 pitches...and he's gone?

This is a very bad move...Sorry, but it is.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ...and here comes our pen.

If Boston loses, you just know all the same people who were screaming about Tito's slow hook with Clement will be yelling about his quick hook here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ...but yeah, it does seem premature.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oops...I just realized I am watching it on GameCast and Wake covered first on the last play. did he get hurt?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, that worked. Nice job Chad.

    ReplyDelete
  39. One pitch, one hit...Now Myers...

    ReplyDelete
  40. No, Wake's not hurt. It's just Rowand owns him. And he really looked pretty terrible facing Dye, Konerko, and Everett. Weird that he could be so dominant in the 5th and so terrible in the 6rh

    ReplyDelete
  41. Did he look as bad as that out over the plate pitch that Bradford threw?

Here's another question...Does Bill Mueller have a hit in this series?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, Everett very nearly hit a double; it was a flashy play by O-Rud that saved it.

No, Miller hasn't gotten a hit.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Pierzynski is the biggest dick in baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  44. A hit, a steal, and a walk...Stellar.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Paplebon in the 6th? Is he going to go 2-2/3 like he did against TOR? Or will they get Arroyo and/or Clement up?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Timlin for two innings at the end of the game is my guess...pray we get ahead and that there is a rained out game tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  47. Can he pitch every inning this series!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Red Sox 6-9 hitters: 2 for 22 this series. Both hits by Graff. Mueller....?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Promosing - 2 on 0 out.

    Lets go!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Juiced baby!!!

    Go TEK!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ozzie Guillen totally yapping at the Home plate umpire. What an ass.

    Cmon Tek!!!!

As Berman said: Varitek is "coming in to pinch hit in the 8-hole."

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ugh -- tek, always with the high fastball.

Cmon Graff. Time to be the hero.

    ReplyDelete
  53. who do I have a bad feeling about this?

    ReplyDelete
  54. All year long I've been saying Ozzie is a dick.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Fuuuucccckkkkk....cmon Damon.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Pierzynski is a dick.

    don't celebrate just yet AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Johnny Damon is a dick

    Just kidding.

    It was a swing dammit.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lets get Renteria on for the big boys.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This umpire is painful to watch. Takes 7 seconds to make the strike call.

    Renteria strikeout. Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  60. That's the most ridiculous Ortiz shift I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yep, ortiz or manny hits a GW HR in the 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  62. so does that mean sutcliff is rooting for CHI since he said he would like to see Dookie go upstairs on Manny for the K?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ugh. I think we just saw Ortiz and Ramirez's last at-bats of 2005.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Tek, again with the high fastball.

    Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is starting to suck

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yeah, this blows. Not like we didn't see it coming though. We knew they were in trouble back in August -- and that was before the offense suddenly became cold.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Graff, Damon, Rent. Are they even going to make it interesting?

    ReplyDelete
  68. It would be nice to get one of them on and let Ortiz have a crack at it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Renteria as the last out...that's familiar.

    ReplyDelete
  70. absolutely pathetic.

    Wait till next year.

    ReplyDelete
  71. So, um...now what?...no more Red Sox? Until March?

    ...Really?

    ReplyDelete
  72. 88 (now 89) comments? About that game?

    Impressive. Highly impressive.
