ANA-NYY: play-by-play line, bottom of the 9th

"T. Womack at designated hitter."

  1. Just reading in the NY papers (more) stuff about Bernie being essentially done. You know he is only 36, which is old but not ancient. I wonder if he may really be a little older than stated. Usually the age differences are in Dominican and Cubans, but I have to wonder in this case.

  2. More gems. This time from bill Madden:

The Mets got hammered for their two trades for Kris Benson and Victor Zambrano, but both pitchers have given them what they'd hoped for. As for what they gave up, Scott Kazmir may yet live up to the great expectations held for him, but he remains a project for Lou Piniella in Tampa as he struggles with his command and averages fewer than six innings per start.

    Lets see:

    Zambrano 4-9 3.86 1.46WHIP 6.05 IP/Start and 54 BB.

    Kazmir 5-7 4.15 (in the AL) 1.46 WHIP 5.8 IP/start and 65 BB.

Not to mention the nearly $2 million differential in salary (and soon to become a lot larger).

    And this gem:

"The 33-year-old lefty, whose last good season was 2000 when he was 12-9 with the Tigers, is 6-6 with a 3.38 ERA despite being supported with only 36 runs in his last four starts."

Only 36 runs in 4 starts? that is either a typo or sarcasm (which Madden is not really known for it).
