Another ugly game that I (thankfully) missed. Arroyo pitched very well (3ER in 8IP), but the offense couldn't get the Big Hit when they needed it.
A random note about the bullpen. Timlin, without doubt the anchor of the bullpen so far, has inherited 18 runners; most of them (11 to be exact) scored. Most of those who scored were put on base by Embree.
Very true that percentage is bad. but Embree is a disaster. I have been thinking for a couple of weeks that he will be cut anyday despite some postings of late that he has been pitching better.
ReplyDeleteReally, with the exception of the impressive performance with the bases loaded a week ago (which he promptly "redeemed himself" by giving up a run the next inning, he has been a complete disaster. I don't want to hear about how he "almost" got out of it today and that the pitch should have been called a strike. It wasn't. You can't walk a guy in that situation. Period. And sure timlin gave up the hit, but Johnson is a Sox killer. So maybe Timlin is not an all star, but Embree really should not be in the MLB (at least for a contending team).
Oh an one more thing. Even with Cano playing well. Is it not the obvious move for the Yankees to pick up Bret Boone. Big name. Former MVP candidate. Good lineage. Its just like them gettin Olerud last year and Tino this year. count on it. And count on him hitting a couple of huge HRs at some point. Simmons wrote last year that they Yanks could pick up a crack whore from times sq and put her in the lineup and she'd have a couple game winning hits....
ReplyDeleteYep, I posted something very similar over at twelve8. It's totally their MO -- aging slugger who's worn out his welcome at his own team, to replace a really good young guy.
ReplyDeleteNo All star for Clement - wow!
ReplyDeleteYeah and I agree that I don't like seeing them pitch, but there are egos in play.
ReplyDeleteI still owe my book review that will cover some more of that.....
And speaking of peices of crap, see: Foulke, Keith.
