A request

Okay, so I'm as bummed out/pissed off as the next guy about that loss. BUT. Unless you're in possession of a detailed medical report on Mike Timlin, compiled by several doctors and physical trainers, do not go off on how Francona should've kept him in for the 12th.

  1. That said, I'd rather have seen Riske out there - though if he had blown it people would've been livid as well. Van Buren would've worked too, but chalk that up to the FO.

  2. I'm sure the papers/blogs will give Tito some shit about it, but I can't fault him for that. It was the first time he pitched in over two weeks, so getting one clean inning from him was plenty.

No matter what happens there will be second guessing. And considering our options were Riske (tremble), Seanez (shake), Foulke (shudder), Tavarez was as good a choice as any. Maybe Delcarmen, but if that blows up the naysayers will scream how can you put a kid out there.....

  3. Funny thing, heading into the season we were all confident about the pen, including Tito. My how the times change.

  4. Okay, so I missed the news that Fouke went on the DL. could it be that we never see him in a Sox uni again? I'm a bit surprised they recalled vanburen and not hansen. I guess Hansen still needs some work. An VB has more experience.

  5. ...and I missed the part about JBV being called back up. Yeah, Delcarmen or JBV were probably the best bets, but ultimately there were no good options...

  6. The way Little Manny has been pitching, he's a kid no longer. And YES, I agree completely with your opinion on leaving Timlin in. No way...we just got him back, and he looked great.

  7. I wouldn't be so sure on Delcarmen. For some reason he does not have the confidence of Tito. I can't recall a single time this year when he was brought in with the game on the line. Most of his appearances have been mop up duty.

  8. Yeah, that's the funny thing, isn't it? Hansen, Lester, Delcarmen, Van Buren, and Pauley are all the future of the franchise. But that doesn't mean they're ready yet. In the present, none of them have an ERA better than 5.2. (Amazingly, Rudy Seanez is at 4.56...)

  9. Great observation. And before last night Tavarez was 4.66.
So I guess there is a reason to trust the veterans.

As much as the future is bright, kids take time to develop. Look a the current young aces and most of them (Halladay,Santana, Peavy, Kazmir, Zambrano) had slow starts and took time to develop. It seems many of the guys that ahd success quickly then burnt out just as fast (Prior, Wood, Lohse).

So anyone that thinks Lester is going to jump in and be our ace any time soon had better adjust thier expectations.

  10. Nothing could have been worse than Julia T. yesterday. Coddle the kids as much as you want, but TRY to win games. hello, TERRY????

  11. Foulke probably would have been worse.
