Random Thoughts from the UK

I am very surprised that this did not get more play in Boston.

Foulke seems unhappy with the Sox, the organization and just about everything else except his paycheck.

"I love the first and 15th [days of the month]. It's payday." - Yikes.
Buy him a truck and he will talk to you. He makes $7MM.

So let's get this straight - Payton is complaining and people say good riddance. But the Foulke business is swept under the carpet.

Like Earl said, Payton had no choice about coming here and Roberts as much as I love him for "the SB" he was pretty much a nonfactor until that point.

As for fixing this team, I think the bellpen is the place. Shoppach is likely to be headed out of town. I meant Tek is here for a while and Mirabelli wanted to stay here. I think you try to keep the top shelf prospects - Ramirez, Pedroria, Lester and maybe Alvarez. But a couple of them MAY be more valuable as trade bait. I would love to know what Theo's plans are for the IF (except SS) and CF next year - lots of moving parts and a few potential players, but also a lot of $$$ to play with. Time will tell. Maybe some of the moves will be revealing.

  1. Are we reading the same article? I don't see anything in there which would seem to imply that Foulke is upset at the Sox, his role, etc. He seems genuinely upset at the media, focusing on the negatives -- and he's hardly the first to do so. It's better than Pedro's total media blackout. And he realizes he may be traded, but it seems like he just said that as a matter-of-fact. Which it is. He's not even remotely demanding a trade, as Payton is, and seems relatively happy.

  2. And a 10 game suspension for Donnelly? Seems high. But then again Disciplinarian Bob Watson holds Robinson's former position. And Robinson (still) draws his checks from MLB.

The list is inconsistent - two games for Howell (although it was the playoffs) but 7-8 for most.

  3. The part I was looking at was:

"Foulke was further incensed with a story in The Boston Globe that discussed his health, going so far as to say there's a "mole" in the Red Sox organization who confirmed he almost opted against arthroscopic knee surgery after last season."

Plus whenever someone starts with, "I love Boston. I absolutely love it," - that generall means they are unhappy.

Yes, he is unhappy with the media, but the part about the mole was interesting.

  4. Wow, I read the sentence
"Foulke was further incensed with a story in The Boston Globe that discussed his health, going so far as to say there's a "mole" in the Red Sox organization who confirmed he almost opted against arthroscopic knee surgery after last season" to mean the Globe story went so far as to say...it's a bad sentence, but I think you're right.

Ten suspensions seems high, but then again most suspensions this year have seemed high or low. Thankfully Scioscia and Robinson got identical suspensions.

  5. That is funny that two people read the same thing and come up with different impressions.

I guess with his other comments on the media it is possible he was calling out the Globe. And Sutcliffe.

And who knows - this writer can construct the story any way he wants. The first thing I read is "I live boston..."

Its like when the athlete says its not about the money. Maybe the quote was part of another sentance. Who knows. Plus how can we trust the media to accurately portray an athlete being upset with the media....
