About Schilling coming back and being less than sensational. Or even *gasp* getting injured again.
I was concerned last year that Game One of the ALCS he had no business being on the mound and could have cost the Sox tremendously. Of course, one medical miracle, and that all was changed.
Not so sure there is another medical miracle to be had. He rushed back this year once already.
Of course, if it were me I would be doing the same thing - pushing to get back and compete. I just hope he learned his lesson in April and will not go out there unless he is really, truly ready. I would rather have him for September and October....
I'm definitely worried... but I think Schilling at 80% or better can definitely help this team, ad if he IS able to really come back, it's a huge boost. I just wish that the guy that got lifted from the rotation was Miller. I'm still not conviced he'll ever be at 100%, and I have much more faith in Wake and Arroyo.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with that about Miller. I was thinking about that on the way home from work. The guy could be huge as a reliever. He could be the guy who comes in around the sixth and can finish the game every three days. That would be fantastic.
ReplyDeletePlus, you allow him the opportunity to rest longer than that as well.
The Sox have pretty much ruled that out. A guy wth those kind of potential arm troubles, you basically want to keep him regular, give him plenty of time to wam up and plenty of time to rest... etc. Unfortunate, but as long as Miller's active on the roster, he's probably there as a SP.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you guys are down on Miller.
ReplyDeleteSure, he has not had an amzing outing this year, but he has been consistently okay. He is starting to go deeper in games. And has only gotten really pounded once (In Toronto).
With the Sox offense, a league average starter should be good enough to win 15 games.
Uh-Oh.
ReplyDeleteWade Miller just got drilled.
I don't think anyone's down on Miller. It's just, assuming Schilling comes back, someone has to go to the pen. Arroyo and Wake have both shown, in each of their last two starts, that they're back to early season form.
ReplyDeleteMan, I consider Varitek one of the smartest in the game. He has to know that high fastball is coming to strike him out. He's been swinging at that his whole career.
Oh good, Embree's warming up. I just don't get it.
Embree - yikes.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I agree with earlier chatter that he has turned the corner. I hope so, but until I start seeing results consistently in the box score....
I'm not down on Miller necessarily, but so far he hasn't blown my socks off either. And, the injury he's rehabbing is a very tough deal to overcome. I'm not convinced he can. Regardless, we want to put the guys who are pitching the best out there, and right now, that's Wake and Arroyo more than it is Wade.
ReplyDeleteHOT DAMN. Embree comes in, no outs with the bases loaded, and no one scores.
ReplyDeletePresumably he'll be back for the 7th. Can this hold up?
HELMET!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGota hand it to Alan, that was a job very well done. Let's hope he can do it again next inning.
ReplyDeleteAnd Johnny O, with his first Boston HR! Sounds like it was an utter blast, too.
Fuckin A!
ReplyDeleteCan this hold up?
ReplyDeleteWell, that answers that question. (Though the defense hurt him.)
C'mon Myers.
I'm sure we'll hear all about how good Embree was in getting the K and double play....
ReplyDeleteWhy not take him out then. Let him leave on a high note.
Sounds like Crisp crushed that ball.
Well, this has been a fun game.
ReplyDeleteSportsnet switched over to the Sox game after the Jays game ended, so I got to see that inning from Olerud's hit on. huge comeback here... now let's lock 'em down an get one more.
The Jays were able to hold on and beat the O's, by the way - Pete Walker, their long-relief guy, stepped into the rotation today and did a great job shutting them down. So, we can pick up ground on the O's and the Yankes tonight... get it done.
ReplyDeleteWalking Ortiz to get to Manny.
ReplyDeleteAwesome.
Oh well, guess it worked.
ReplyDeleteC'mon Keith... just three outs, buddy. You can do this.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Those were very very well hit. Keith looks terrible.
ReplyDeleteNot terrible enough to lose.
ReplyDeleteSweep!
And then nothing doin' after Hafner's near-HR. Sox sweep. Awesome.
