Thank god that's over. Now we might actually get normal baseball news again. Five games...what's the bet on how low this number gets? I say they never get within 3.
Well, the Sox are bound to win one of these games against the Angels...and there are tons of D-Rays and O's games just over the horizon. Meanwhile, the Yankees have their tough stretch coming up.
My original prediction was that the 6.5 game lead that the Sox had about 2-3 weeks ago, will be the same when the Sox play the Yankees at the end of this month.
I am just getting back into the swing of things, so I really can't say how I feel. That being said, I am impressed to see everyone's confidence. Personally, 5 games is WAY too close for me.
Don't get me wrong...I'd be way happier with a 8 or 9 game lead at this point...But, they have to play the whole season.
The Sox have to play reasonable baseball the rest of the way to make the playoffs. The Yankees will come back to Earth and play probably as well as the Sox the rest of the way. That adds up to the Sox winning the division.
Both teams have ridiculously easy Septembers. If either one slumps against those bad teams it could be trouble.
The Sox finish the season with a 6-game homestand against Oakland (who will be eliminated by that time) and Minnesota for FOUR...That means the Sox must have a 5-game lead heading into that series to line up their pitching. If it is less, than they have to play their a**es off because Minnesota might be eyeing a playoff spot still...
