If the Sox win tonight, they'll be 23 games over .500. Which is something they haven't been all season. Meaning finally we can stop saying "They've been a .500 team since..."
How exciting would that be! I think this team and the way they are playing lately plus their schedule coming up: Tampa & Oreos. I's say they'll be the first to 70 wins and 30 games over .500
My predict: 70-40 in a weel or so!
Looking forward in a few weeks to having Sheffield and the Tigers bash the Yankees for 6 games in August!!!!! Then we can go into Yankee Stadium and pick the bones! 3 game sweep in Yankee Stadium!!!!!
Yeah, and the lead is now 6.5 games. A nice lead, but not a comfortable one by any stretch of the imagination.
61 games to go for the Sox. To get to 95 wins, they need to go 34-27. That's a .557 winning percentage.
The Yankees have 62 games to go. To get to 95 wins, they need to go 41-21. That's a .661 winning percentage.
Until the "pick the bones" series, let's compare schedules.
The Sox have 9 games against the D-Rays. Let's say they dominate and go 7-2 there.
They have 7 games against the Angels. 4-3 or 5-2.
6 against the O's. 4-2.
4 at the White Sox. 2-2.
3 at Seattle (they suck IN Seattle) 1-2.
That is a 18-11 or 19-10 record in that span. A .620 winning percentage at worst. Of course, that is dominating Tampa. Oops forgot about 1 Cleveland game tonight. Let's say 19-11 (.620 winning) or 18-12 (.600).
The Yankees... Win against KC tonight. 1-0
6 against Baltimore. 4-2.
8 against Detroit. 4-4.
3 against the White Sox (in the Bronx) 2-1.
3 more against KC??? (How many times do they play?) 3-0 or 2-1
3 at Toronto. 1-2.
3 at Cleveland. 2-1 or 1-2.
3 at LA. 1-2 (This is a tough road trip...they go from playing Detroit in NY to LA to playing Detroit).
18-12...
So, while the standings may get tighter over the next day or two or three. My guess is that by the time that series in the Bronx rolls around everything will be as it is now. 6.5 game lead.

ReplyDeleteWTACH OUT, THE RED SOX AWESOME-TRAIN IS COMIN' TO TOWN! YEAH!
"Then we can go into Yankee Stadium and pick the bones"
ReplyDeleteThat might be my favorite comment of the year.
We are doing the Yanks a favor by beting CLE and letting them sneak into the WC race. Maybe they will mortgage their future for Teixeira.
Oh well, so much for that. Man, 1-0 games sure rock when your team is the "1" team, but having the "0" kinda sucks.
