Question

It looks like everyone's blaming CHB for this. That is silly. Is there any other evidence, anywhere, besides one cryptic line in the Herald?
"A leading contributing factor, according to sources close to the situation, was a column in Sunday’s Boston Globe..."
I hope people aren't actually taking that seriously. I mean, a can of alphabet soup generally has more credibility than the average Herald article. Particularly when the topic of said Herald article is the Boston Globe.

I was going to go off on this, but SF from Yanksfansoxfan has done it already, far more concisely than I could:
"Giving Shaughnessy any credit for causing the exit of Epstein would be giving him too much, it would only serve to reaffirm Dan's sense of self-importance and impact on the Boston sports scene."
Amen. The problem is Lucchino and company, not Shaughnessy.

  1. Yeah, all the backlash headed toward the CHB is really unnecessary and unwarranted. The Herald is a joke. always has. And they have always been very willing to take shots at the Globe. The bigger issue in Boston is, frankly, the WEEI factor. Thankfully I live 3,000 miles away from the car crash that is 850 on the AM dial and therefore do not listen (I generally resist the temptation to tune in via the web). I imagine today there is a big backlash against CHB on EEI - fueled even more by the anti-Globe slant of EEI (since the Globe banned their writers from appearing).

That being said - I agree. Blaming CHB is wrong. Just as it was wrong to blame the Curse of the Bambino for the ineptitude of the Sox for many years. But the media need an angle.

  2. (Not that there's anything wrong with hating CHB...)

  4. I blame Shaughnessy only for doing what he always does, which is sacrifice good journalism for a chance to lash out. Though I will say that Curt Schilling went on SoSH yesterday and completely excoriated CHB - and Schilling has evidently been talking with Theo through much of this. Grain of salt, but there it is.

  5. X - while normally I'd agree that EEI fuels these things, they've been shockingly good with this story. The coverage is getting sillier now, almost a week after the fact, but for the first few days there were doing some really really good work. I was as surprised as you.
