It's back on...

Rumors of a deal forJohan hit the rumor mill again today. Twins are leaning toward a deal with Jacoby. Still, nothing has been done and frankly no new news is being reported. But I thought I'd start another thread, just in case this heats up quickly. Plus it is a great excuse to post this awesome picture.

  1. My two favorite parts of that story are the mention of Kei Igawa’s name and the mention that the Mets are trying to finish second – hey why should the off season be different than the regular season. And the Igawa “sighting” is hysterical. Maybe the Yankees will include Farnsworth and Carl Pavano in the trade as well. I always loved that element of listening to WFAN – Yankee fans thinking they could trade their spare parts for All Stars.

I’m all for selling high on Ellsbury.

  2. Prediction:

Mark Prior will be a Red Sox in 2008.

  3. X... where is this prediction coming from? I guess that answer is obvious. Why do you think this is going to happen?

  4. Pulled out of my butt. He will be non-tendered. theo likes one year, rehab, scrap heap deals. Prior might want to win.

  5. Tejada to the Astros. They now have Kaz Matsui and Tejada for middle-infield...I wonder what that means for Loretta and/or Ty Wigginton.

Not sure what the Orioles are doing. Instead of unloading useless players, they trade Tejada and are looking to trade Brian Roberts (maybe for Travis Hafner??? That's a GYS Fantasy joke...) and Bedard (their best pitcher). Wouldn't it be good for them to keep at least one cornerstone guy?

  6. I think they traded Tejada a year too late. Clearly the O's thinking is that they will not compete for a 3-5 years. So they should move the pieces they have that will not be part of that 2010-2013 window. And Tejada is not the player he used to b. Bedard, however, I wold think they would do everything they can to see if he would sign an extension at a reasonable price. With mcPhail in place, they seem to be headed in the right direction for the first time in years. Its just too bad that this once proud franchise has sunk so low.

The better question is "what the hell is Houston doing?" I can't believe they gave up that much for an over the hill, overpaid, third baseman. I wonder if BAL is paying any of tejada's salary? Scott is not that much of a drop off from Tejada. Granted we'll see how he does in 600 AB. And this after the Stros gave away Lidge earlier this winter. Strange.

  7. 5 players for Tejada. I agree they traded him too late, but 5 players!

I remember when Baltimore was a powerhouse...I also remember when KC was a powerhouse. And how about those Reds? But, yes, I agree. Baltimore will be better sooner rather than later with McPhail (although having "fail" in your name isn't good).

  8. They could have had either Brandon Wood or Erik aybar and a pitcher from LAA last year, but Angelos wouldn't sign off on the deal.

And even the Pirates were pretty good not too long ago (skinny Barry days).

  9. That's true...Bobby Bonilla, Andy Van Slyke...damn...

And let's not forget about the Manny for Miguel trade that almost happened.

  10. And if my memory serves me right, the Sox were going to send Manny and another player (maybe Lester) and possibly some $$ to the O's for Tejada.
