Here we go again

The "Manny is about to be traded" rumors are bigger than ever. I suppose that means something (though the media always has to make the newest rumor seem bigger than the last). I just don't get it - so far none of the options seem like good trades at all. Moreover, Manny's contract looks better than it ever has - way crappier players like Soriano are now getting almost as much, and Manny's contract is no longer a huge multiyear deal. And the thought of J.D. Drew (or whoever) providing "protection" for Ortiz is just laughable. Yikes.

  1. I agree there is no single person alive that can replace Manny's bat. That being said, I do think it's a good idea to pursue trades if for no other reason than to satisfy Manny.

  2. But it seems, from what I've heard this Tuesday morning, that our Sox are looking for one boni-fide ready to start major leaguer and prospects for Manny. For it to be worth trading Manny, someone has to offer us an unrefusable deal! What are they f-ing thinking????

  4. Looking at these as separate transactions….

I have said about a million times that trading Manny is silly. And as the “rumors” get stronger, I wonder if there something that has not made it out there. Like a complete clubhouse revolt this past September. Something. Because it is so obvious to not trade him. And now they are talking with the Giants. They have virtually nothing to offer. Trust me. I hear and see a lot about this team. But I will say this – and obviously I am building a fantasy team here. But say the Giants would give the Sox Matt Cain (they won’t). Then use Manny’s money to sing Zito. How would you like a rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Cain, and Zito – with Papelbon remaining as closer and Wake around for insurance/versatility. I know. Crazy talk.

Or maybe they take the prospects they get in Manny trade and get Andruw Jones. Of course then they have to sign Jones after 07.

I actually like the idea of Drew. Sure he might be (okay, will be) hurt for some of the contract, but when playing he is better than Soriano or Lee. Of course I like him much better with Ortiz, Manny, Drew, Lowell, Tek.

  5. In other interesting Red Sox news. WhatthefuckisJohnHenrydoinglettingLarrytalkinpublicagain. You would have thought he learned something last year. That being said, it is interesting that Lucchino is in Japan and meeting with seibu. There really would be no reason to do so – the $51.1 is done. Perhaps there will be some “negotiation.” This would be great, if only to hear the Yankee fans whine about conspiracies. It has long been rumored that the Mariners never paid the full $13MM posting fee on Ichiro. If the sox can get the Lions to kick back $8MM to D-Mat everyone wins.

  6. Well, that would explain why the Sox outbid the NY teams by so much...
