So that was a little weird. I posted the other night that we needed 1 more win to exceed our expectations for May. Then we got swept by the Chi Sox. Only to make up for that by sweeping the A's in spectacular fashion. Although the series against the A's showed some holes in the Red Sox rotation as Bucholz finally came back to earth and PapelBOMB finally exploded.
Looking ahead, the rest of June consists of 9 games against our top AL East foes (NY, Blue Jays, and TB) and 12 games against random NL teams (Padres, Brewers, Pirates and Phillies). On top of that 15 out of 21 games remaining are on the road! On the surface June is going to continue to be a tricky month. Amazingly, we're 1 game out of first which is a huge improvement, but I really don't see us gaining any ground in June. Frankly, I would be happy to get out of this month 3-4 games back. My guess is that we'll go 4 and 5 against the AL East and we'll split the 12 games with the NL teams. Which means we'll end up 1 game under .500 for June.
Thoughts?
I think there is too much offense on this team to predict (another) sub .500 month. And split the games vs the NL team even if a bunch of them are on the road? The Sox have feasted on NL teams in the past. They should be able to win all those series or 3 of 4 of them with at least one sweep mixed in there.
ReplyDeleteI say 3-3 vs Yanks and TB. 2-1 vs Tor and 8-4 vs NL.
And the yanks schedule is no cakewalk. Four vs. CLE (best record in baseball depending on whether you believe they are actually good), Texas and Boston. And their NL games are COL, Cincy, MILW and Cubs – teams that I think are worse than the ones Boston faces.
Maybe I do have my glass half full glasses on right now, even with the Papeldouche explosion Saturday. BEGINNING OF RANT He’s a freakin idiot. I think the OT goal by Vancouver was Papeldouche’s fault. He created bad Boston karma for the day. And he was still popping off about it afterward and taking zero responsibility. Tek took one for you by getting tossed and you still went apeshit. What a baby. Never seen Rivera act like that. So there was one questionable pitch. Life sucks. Move on and do your job. You disgraced the uniform Saturday. END OF RANT.
Go B’s.
